Who I Am
I am a saxophonist, composer and improviser born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
For me, music is not only a form of artistic expression but also a way of exploring perception, imagination and human experience. Throughout my life, improvisation, collaboration and the search for personal artistic languages have been constant companions, guiding me toward connections between sound and deeper dimensions of human experience.
My work brings together music, visual arts, movement and symbolic exploration, creating spaces where artistic practice becomes a form of dialogue, discovery and transformation.
Education and Formation
My musical education began through several years of private study in saxophone, jazz and improvisation with different teachers, an experience that laid the foundations of my artistic development.
I later studied Jazz at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory in Buenos Aires and continued my education at the National University of Quilmes, where I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Composition with Acoustic and Electroacoustic Media.
During these years, I developed a deep interest in improvisation, contemporary music, experimental composition, and the relationships between sound, image and meaning. Graphic scores, open forms of composition and performance, and interdisciplinary projects involving visual arts and dance became central areas of exploration within my artistic practice.
Years later, I undertook further studies in Evolutionary Psychological Astrology with the Chilean astrologer Pablo Flores. This experience expanded a symbolic inquiry that had already been present in my work for many years and opened new possibilities for connecting music, imagination and symbolic language.
Today, I continue to develop projects that integrate improvisation, visual arts, astrology and audience participation, exploring new forms of dialogue between sound, image and experience.
Artistic Journey
My artistic journey has developed across diverse creative communities in Argentina and Europe.
In La Plata, I became involved in jazz, contemporary jazz and improvisation through jam sessions, concerts and collaborative projects. These experiences played a fundamental role in shaping my musical language and my interest in collective creation.
Later, in Buenos Aires, I became increasingly engaged with free improvisation, original music and interdisciplinary artistic practices. During this period I developed my own projects, including the Hernán Samá Quartet and later the Hernán Samá Trio, both dedicated primarily to the performance of original compositions.
At the same time, I participated in numerous projects connected to improvisation, contemporary music and experimental forms of performance, collaborating with musicians, visual artists and dancers in a variety of creative contexts.
After moving to Amsterdam, I continued exploring improvisation through collaborations with musicians from the local creative music scene, expanding my artistic perspective through international exchange and experimentation.
Today, based in Germany, my work takes place within an interdisciplinary environment that brings together music, visual arts, astrology, movement and audience participation through concerts, workshops and collaborative artistic projects.
Current Artistic Practice
My current work integrates saxophone, improvisation, composition and sound exploration. Alongside acoustic instruments, I use EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument), real-time sound processing, loops and effects pedals as part of my artistic practice.
These tools allow me to expand the expressive possibilities of acoustic instruments and explore territories where improvisation, electronics and sound transformation coexist within the same creative space.
My practice encompasses different members of the saxophone family — soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass saxophone — each offering its own timbral and expressive character. I am also particularly drawn to historical instruments built during the first decades of the twentieth century, whose sonic qualities continue to inspire my artistic work today.
